Station master’s house up for sale for £145,000

Fancy living at a working station set on one of the most scenic railway lines in the UK?

Well, if you’ve got £145,000 you could, because a Grade-II-listed old station master’s house at Caersws Railway Station in Powys, Wales is on the market.

The property, on the Cambrian Railway Line which runs between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth, is described as a “unique opportunity” by sellers Morris Marshall & Poole.

It is now privately owned but was once linked to the firmer Van Railway line which was used to transport lead from mines in the area and was once managed by John Ceiriog Hughes, the Welsh poet.

The main railway station buildings and junction box remain the property of Arriva Trains Wales who operate the unmanned station along the railway.

“It’s definitely a unique opportunity,” said Neville Roberts of Morris, Marshall & Poole, who are selling the property on behalf of client.

“While the property stands along the platform, there is private access, a garden, detached garage and parking spaces. So it’s also self-contained."
