Lord to hold grandest car boot sale of the year

Lord Viscount Cowdray is planning to hold what has been dubbed as “the grandest car boot sale of the year” in September, it has been reported.

The news comes after he recently sold his painting, A Portrait of Miss Read, for the record amount of £6.5 million. This week, Lord Cowdray invited a Daily Mail journalist to look around his home, where he is already gathering together other items to sell off. The items are expected to fetch around £4 million in total.

He is planning to sell possessions such as more paintings, a set of silver bowls, books and furniture. A thousand lots in all will be auctioned off by famous auction house Christie’s. Some will be sold for around the £1,000 mark whilst other lots are expected to fetch up to £250,000. Lord Cowdray is also selling his £25 million home through an estate agent.

He told the Daily Mail that he is selling his home and possessions in a downsizing exercise, to make life easier for his family and to free up funds for new projects. He says he and his family will move back into the 1930s cottage where they lived previously and he recalls them being “blissfully happy”.
