Hotel contents up for auction

The contents of a Newport hotel are up for auction after the premises closed its doors due to a "severe" downturn in trade.

The historic King's Hotel is to sell off televisions, clothes hangers and chandeliers through auctioneers Watts and Morgan. A total of 500 lots will feature in a 17-page catalogue of the property's possession.

Business owners might find that some of the catering and kitchen equipment is of use, while the flatscreen televisions might even interest personal buyers.

Speaking to the South Wales Argus, auctioneer Robin Jones stated: "There are flatscreen TVs that are only two years old, umpteen pictures, including prints of possible historical interest, items of furniture, but little in the way of antiques."

He added that the auction is open to everyone and that the auctioneers are expecting members of the public to attend, as well as caterers, other hotel and restaurant owners and student landlords.

The event is to take place on 3 March, with viewing to be held the day before and from 9am on the Saturday before the sales process kicks off at 10:30am.
