Historic Staffordshire pub goes up for sale

New owners are being sought to run a historic Staffordshire pub with the business going up for sale on Rightmove.

An award-winning Staffordshire pub that dates back to the mid-19th century is on the market for £79,995.

The Ivy House in Stafford Road, Newtown, near Great Wyrley, currently employs 25 people and generates around £480,000 in turnover every year.

Owners Martin and Hilary Cregeen said they have decided now is the right time sell as they start to “slow down a little bit”.

The pub, which used to serve local coal miners and canal workers, has won four Pub of the Year awards from the Campaign For Real Ale and is rated as a four-and-a-half star venue on TripAdvisor.

Mr Cregeen told the Express and Star: “We are getting to the age where we are starting to slow down a bit.

“We had a good deal last year and consequently it is now a nice profitable business and the time is right to sell.”

The listing for the Ivy House on Rightmove states: “The current owners purchased the business in 2004 and have since established a food-led business offering quality, locally sourced, home cooked food and drinks to a loyal, repeat and desirable clientele.

“The business is currently operated by the owners themselves assisted by three full and circa 22 part-time members of staff.

“Sitting proudly at the centre of the local community the business has been recognised with a TripAdvisor certificate of excellence and has been a Camra Pub of the Year award winner on no less than four occasions.

"New owners could continue to operate the business using the same highly successful formula, or they may wish to put their own stamp on the business.”
