Four Yorkshire pubs up for sale as owner slims portfolio

A pub and restaurant management business has announced it is to sell off some of its portfolio, first putting four pubs in West Yorkshire on the market.

Chennell and Armstrong have decided to put the pubs up for sale, following a decision to reduce day-to-day operations in light of the retirement of its commercial director.

Amongst the pubs up for sale include two in Wharfedale - Whitakers, in Kirkgate, Otley and the Spite Inn, located in Newall With Clifton. Whitakers, which boasts a walled garden, has become well-known for its cask ales over the years. The Spite Inn, which only reopened last year, has a price tag of £275,000.

Other pubs up for sale include The Woodman Inn in Huddersfield and the Grade II listed Black Bull in Wetherby and Whitelocks, in Leeds. The latter is Leeds' oldest pub and was the first property in the city to obtain electricity.

The sale of the four pubs is being handled by Sheffield-based Quest Property, who say they can be purchased either individually or as a package.

A Chennell and Armstrong spokesman said, “I hope Whitakers will continue to flourish under new ownership. It’s doing quite well.

“I think Otley is like a number of towns in having a really tough time. Whitakers has settled down and become a part of the community despite some fairly tough economic conditions,” he added.
